The National Brain Appeal

The National Brain Appeal is the charity dedicated to raising funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Over the last ten years The National Brain Appeal has raised more than £15 million for cutting edge equipment, buildings and research.

One in six people in the UK are affected by a neurological disorder, either from birth, through injury, or a slowly developing illness that occurs later in life. The National is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis (MS), brain cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease and head injury.

In recent years, The National Brain Appeal has provided funding for all the major developments at The National Hospital including: the first Brain Tumour Unit in the UK (along with the Molly Lane Fox Unit, a dedicated ward for brain tumour patients) * The Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases * The Advanced Neuroimaging Suite and the Neuroimaging Analysis Centre * the Dementia Research Centre * the Clinical Neurosciences Centre. Our current appeal is to upgrade the Operating Theatres at The National Hospital including the creation of a specialist complex spinal theatre.
