BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW
The three townhouses that the Stafford London Kempinski call home began as private residences in the 17th Century. Number 17 was most famously owned by Lord and Lady Lyttelton. Lady Lyttleton was the daughter of the then Earl Spencer, and was pressed into service as nanny to Queen Victoria’s children.
In the years that followed, the house changed hands many times, becoming the Richmond Club Chambers, Green’s Private Hotel and St. James’s Palace Hotel. The Stafford Club, originally housed in number 18, was added in 1886, and in 1912, the hotel was extended to include number 16; The Stafford Hotel was born.
During WW2, The Stafford served as a club for American and Canadian officers stationed overseas who sought refuge in the wine cellars. This led to the formation of the Better ‘Ole Club whose membership comprises guests recognised for services to The Stafford, like HRH the Prince of Wales.
In 2009, the Stafford was purchased by Britannia Hospitality Limited and in 2010 became part of the Kempinski Hotels collection. £6 million were spent in 2011 to enhance the charm of the hotel without loosing its unique character.
MORE ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
This exclusive event has all the right ingredients for a divine dinner—literally!
Your evening will start as your group is escorted into one of the Stafford’s two dazzling private dining rooms. Both have just benefitted from a six million pound hotel-wide refurbishment that’s restored the historical grandeur of Victorian marble fireplaces and rich wood panelling and cornices while adding modern and elegant updates.
After enjoying a welcome glass of champagne and assortment of canapes, Executive Chef Brendan Fyldes will join your group to discuss the meal. But instead of telling you what he’ll be cooking, he’ll ask you to choose from the range of fresh, seasonal ingredients with which he’ll present you. Once your choice is made, he’ll head back to the kitchen to create a 3-course meal that will be prepared in his signature style: rustic yet gourmet interpretations of British cuisine.
Next, you’ll receive a visit from Master Sommelier Gino Nardella who will help your group select wines to perfectly pair with the menu you’ve created. Nardella’s expertise will ensure that each wine enhances and extends the flavours in Chef Fylde’s custom-made meal.
You’ll then be served your dinner and wines whilst enjoying flowing conversation amidst the charming surrounds of the private rooms that few get to see. It’s an exclusive designer dining experience that’s as unique as the tastes of your group!
