BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW
Since opening in 1997, the Met Bar has been among the most modern and unique bars in Central London. Originally the bar was extremely exclusive, with a "members only" policy. But more recently, the Met Bar has become more welcoming and has taken on a new look, an expanded cocktail menu, and fresh lunch and dinner menus that feature great modern takes on classic seasonal British cuisine.
The iconic atmosphere of the Met Bar is thanks in large part to its decor, which features back-painted glass tables with golden highlights, which reflect the natural light that floods into the restaurant through the huge glass wall. It is an impressive sight to watch the light change in the dining room as afternoon fades into evening and the glass becomes etched, obscuring diners' vision from the outside in. Who knew natural light could play such an important role in a bar's mood?
The Met Bar is open from 9am until 2am Tuesday to Saturday and until midnight on Sundays and Mondays, making it the perfect spot to start your day, or to finish your night. With a clean, modern decor and a hip atmosphere, the Met Bar has made its mark on London.
MORE ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
If you're looking for a modern take on Afternoon Tea, The Met Bar in Central London is the place. To coincide with Britain’s summer celebrations of the London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, this hip restaurant and bar has developed an Afternoon Tea complete with the Best of British soundtrack, which makes a perfect date afternoon or get-together with friends. From the moment you step into the modern, hip atmosphere of The Met, with its huge glass wall and natural light, you'll feel you've come to the right place — it's the perfect mix of contemporary style and classic comfort. So settle in, you're about to enjoy a unique London Tea experience!
First choose your tea, which may be more difficult than it sounds, considering the wide selection The Met Bar offers. All the teas here are 100% organic and Fairtrade, so you can feel good about your choice. If you prefer something classic, try English Breakfast, Darjeeling or Earl Grey. Or go for a refreshing green tea, or a jasmine tea, or if you want to avoid caffeine, try fresh mint or ginger tea with Manuka honey, or soothing chamomile. If you want something a bit stronger, you can forego the tea altogether and enjoy a glass of chilled champagne.
But your tea selection is only the beginning of this amazing Afternoon Tea. There is also an incredible selection of finger foods to choose from, both sweet and savoury. The Met Bar offers a selection of sandwiches, including a tangy, mildly spiced coronation chicken & free-range egg & cress. They also have a fantastic mini pork pie, served with homemade piccalilli on the side. Don't forget about their tender prawns with crisp lettuce in a creamy cocktail sauce, and the mini crumpet, with English cheddar and tangy onion chutney. Those in the mood for meat will love the bite-sized sausage roll, with crisp homemade pastry encasing a delicious Lincolnshire sausage. And, if you have a sweet tooth, you're in the right place, because The Met's desserts are even more fantastic than their tea selection! The first to try is their sherry trifle, with soft fruits, custard and whipped cream. For something lighter, a traditional British butterfly cake, with smooth buttercream and fresh summer berries, will hit the spot. Or try a crumbly scone served with Cornish clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. Finally, there is delicious, moist Battenburg cake with creamy frosting.
With excellent organic teas, an unbeatable selection of sweets and savouries, and a hip, elegant atmosphere, The Met Bar has taken London's Afternoon Tea tradition into the 21st century.
