BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW
The Hempel is not only a boutique, five-star hotel, and one of the most stylish hotels in London, but the vibrant yet tranquil neighbourhoods that surround it, namely Hyde Park and Notting Hill, make it a tranquil urban retreat, and a standout location for afternoon tea in London! This is, after all, the place where they filmed Notting Hill. Located in a verdant garden square, The Hempel provides easy access to some of London's most distinguished cultural attractions, including Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Guests who would like to explore the shopping culture of London are also in good hands at The Hempel. Quirky antique shops and flea markets add character to the surrounding neighbourhoods, while The Westfield London, the largest indoor shopping arena in Europe, offers over 265 shops, including hard-to-find designers and high street labels. Whether you're a fashionista or a stamp collector, you'll find something for you within reach of The Hempel.
But there's more to life than museums and shopping, and fortunately, there are numerous events taking place around The Hempel all year round. Nearby Wembley Stadium hosts regular concerts and sporting events, and there are also international trade shows and street festivals held regularly in both Hyde Park and Notting Hill. And of course, you could just stay at the hotel, enjoying a modern London afternoon tea! All of this means there's nothing dull about a stay at The Hempel, and the modern, minimalist design of this elegant hotel is only part of the attraction!
MORE ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Casual and cool, with a laid-back approach to elegance inspired by the minimalism of Eastern design, the No. 31 Lounge Bar at The Hempel, the setting for this Zen Afternoon Tea, is the perfect place to take a break from the hectic city streets and get back in touch with what really matters. Entering the lounge, of this boutique, five-star hotel, you'll be greeted by shimmering candlelight and a warm, glowing fireplace, as you and your companions take a seat to indulge in the perfect timeout, with freshly prepared pastries and finger sandwiches, as well as premium loose-leaf organic teas.
The tea selection at The Hempel is fantastic, and is focused on quality organic teas in a serene style. Those who prefer hearty black teas should go for the rich, malty Assam, the smokey Bohea Lapsang, or the classic flavours of Earl Grey Supreme. If you really want to get into the Asian atmosphere, try the rich Darjeeling Second Flush, known as the champagne of teas. Or go for a green tea, like the tightly rolled buds of Jasmine Pearls, or delicate and fruity Silver Needles. For something without caffeine, try an amazing infusion of whole pink rosebuds, which has a light sweet flavour. Finally, fresh peppermint tea is an energising and refreshing choice. But the teas at The Hempel's Zen Afternoon Tea are only half of the attraction, as you'll also be treated to a wide array of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, pastries prepared in The Hempel's patisserie, and freshly baked raisin and plain scones served with Devonshire clotted cream and home-made strawberry jam.
The Hempel is just a short walk from Queensway, Lancaster Gate, and Paddington tube stations, yet feels like another world. As you step back onto the street after experiencing one of London's most serene afternoon teas, you'll feel like you've been transported. But you'll bring with you a grounding sense of calm that only a fantastic pot of tea in a relaxing setting can provide. Whilst you're there for the high tea, be sure to check out their famed no. 35 Restaurant and their serene Zen garden!
