Hope Street
Hope Street
Bringing greater independence and freedom to the most marginalised people in the city.An initiative of the Baptist Churches of NSW and ACT, Hope Street is motivated by the conviction that the church cannot talk about God in a situation of need without doing something about that need. Begun in 1983 as Baptist Inner City Ministries, Hope Street is fully auspiced by the Baptist Union but is totally responsible for raising funds for its projects that assist the homeless, long-term unemployed, sex workers, problem gamblers, poverty-stricken and indigenous groups. rnHope Street's projects are governed by the values of taking a wholistic, incarnational and empowering approach. Hope Street also facilitates urban education to raise awareness of urban issues and theology, and to train people for ministry in marginalised urban contexts.
